The best order to learn the times tables
- 2, 5 and 10: skip counting the children already know.
- 3, 4 and 11: 4 is double 2; 11 up to 9 repeats the digit.
- 9: the digits add up to 9, and the tens digit is one less than the number you multiply by.
- 6, 7, 8 and 12: the hardest; most of their facts are already known from the other tables.
Ways to use the printed tables
- Stick one table on the fridge each week and say it out loud while waiting for dinner.
- Print the blank version, fill it in, and check with the answer page.
- Move on to multiplication worksheets with one table at a time, then mixed facts.
